A good rule of thumb is to use no more than three colors in your design. Make sure your infographic can stand out from that. Remember most infographics are viewed online so you want colors that work on screens. Control the color in your infographic.Ensure your type does not detract from your visuals. Don't use too many types - it can be distracting. Make sure it complements your message and doesn't detract from it. Does it still make sense? If not, perhaps you are being too reliant on text and not on the strength of the message. While designing your infographic try turning off the text periodically. Don't use cartoons to depict serious subjects. Set the tone of your infographic to the content. The story should drive the design not the other way around. Know what you intend to say before you begin creating your skeleton.
